This is a photo of a female California Mantid - Stagmomantis California
Size: Moderate large (2 to 2 1/2 in., or 50 to 64mm, long)
Color: Mottled brown or greenish in color.
Male California Praying Mantis has fully developed wings that, when folded, extend beyond the tip of the abdomen; the female wings are very short, reaching only to about the middle of the abdomen.

Great photo of the praying mantis. I remember I used to play with these "walking sticks" when I lived in Japan. As a kid, we'd make them "fight". We were pretty fearless and now, I'd never think of picking one up!
