After a long day playing with our adorable children, I went in our backyard to smell the roses and I couldn't resist snapping a shot of this beauty.

California Praying Mantis

This is a photo of a female California Mantid - Stagmomantis California
Size: Moderate large (2 to 2 1/2 in., or 50 to 64mm, long)
Color: Mottled brown or greenish in color.
Male California Praying Mantis has fully developed wings that, when folded, extend beyond the tip of the abdomen; the female wings are very short, reaching only to about the middle of the abdomen.
